ProConnect Manchester - Supporting Creative Leaders

On the 11th May ProConnect Manchester is hosting two workshops for leaders of Creative Businesses, and first time managers in the creative industries. These sessions are designed to equip managers and leaders to develop their team and drive better performance across the company.

ProConnect is supported by ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), and held in partnership with Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub with event partners Media City UK.

What makes a successful leader of a Creative Business

What are the attributes of a successful leader of a creative business? Are people born with them, or can they be learnt? This highly interactive seminar will help identify the key characteristics of people leading high performing creative companies including understanding personality types - one's own, as well as others', the importance of defining boundaries and establishing a clarity of role, inspiring people - and achieving commitment not just compliance, aligning your team to your company's goals, reviewing progress and effective communication.

The session is taught by Sue Ahern, a former BBC producer and now partner at Creative People. Sue specialises in coaching and helping individuals in the creative industries to realise their full potential and has worked with senior managers and business leaders at many of the UK's leading production companies.

Managing people for the first time

Becoming a manager is a crucial stepping stone in most careers but, for creatives, can be one of the most challenging. Making things and managing people can require two very different skillsets. This practical seminar will give participants insights into how to manage effectively, or more effectively if you're already doing it.

Taught by former BBC producer Sue Ahern, it will cover how to hire the right people and create a complementary team, getting off on the right foot - and the importance of inductions and orientations, agreeing and monitoring objectives, giving and receiving feedback, dealing with underperformance, achieving emotional control and how to develop and retain staff. As a partner at Creative People, Sue now specialises in coaching and helping managers and individuals in creative businesses realise their full potential, and works with many of the UK's leading indies.
