Greenshoots Companies Announced: Set To Receive £25k Each

Creative England and Microsoft have selected eight regionally-based games companies to enrol on the Greenshoots programme, with each studio receiving a £25k boost.

Greenshoots is designed to enable developers to kick-start development of their own intellectual property (IP) while reaching a global audience. Throughout the making of the game they’ll receive workshops and business expertise from gaming giant Microsoft plus an additional £25k from Creative England.

The studios include:

The games range from strategic tower defence and narrative time control to antiques, mobile crime-sprees and elemental puzzle solving. This year the initiative gives them the chance to make games not only for tablet and mobile, but also for Xbox One.

The companies are now in the process of developing their games to be ready to launch later this year.

Jaspal Sohal, Head of Games and Digital Media at Creative England, commented “A huge 95% of UK video games companies are micro or small businesses, and programmes like Greenshoots give these studios the boost they need to take their game to market.

“In this second round of Greenshoots we have an impressive group of innovative studios who not only have brilliant ideas but also the business acumen to grow as a company too. And with Microsoft’s input we can also offer these developers a huge opportunity to receive advice and mentoring from a major platform holder.”

Senior Marketing Manager at Microsoft, Trisha Rana, added “At Microsoft we are committed to helping game studios succeed. We have partnered with Creative England on Greenshoots to equip these studios with the right set of tools and resources they need to grow.

“What differentiates this round of Greenshoots from the previous year is that we involved our partner Investors and Publishers right from the selection process. This enabled us to expose the companies to the potential of further funding and development; thereby ensuring the overall success of not only the studios but the Greenshoots programme as a whole. This is a trend that we would like to continue for the future iterations of Greenshoots.”

The Greenshoots programme is jointly developed by Creative England and Microsoft and supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF).
