DID YOU KNOW THIS? - BBC/Ofcom

As of the 3rd of April, Ofcom will develop an ‘operating framework’ for the BBC, covering regulation of the BBC’s performance & compliance with content standards.

Ofcom have requested that the BBC commission content which is the most valuable to audiences, which include “news, children’s programmes, and programmes made specifically for UK audiences which reflect the full diversity of the UK”.

Sharon White, Ofcom chief executive, has stated that the BBC could be fined up to £250,000 for each breach of its operating licence once it is finally agreed this September. “The charter makes it clear that the BBC must reach all communities in the UK,” she said.

Coupled with a focus on diversity & a focus on content outside of London. Sharon White stated that the BBC spends 30% less on original UK programmes compared with 2004, she stated new targets would “ensure they don’t fall back again”.

WATCH THIS - A Quiet Passion

Cynthia Nixon stars as the legendary poet Emily Dickinson in this luminous biopic from director Terence Davies.

Emily Dickinson was essentially an unknown in her lifetime, with fewer than a dozen of her nearly 1,800 poems published. However, as is customary of art, in death she has become one of the most celebrated writers of our time.

A Quiet Passion was produced by 2016 CE50 Future Leader, Hurricane Films. They have enjoyed broadcast and immersive film commissions from the BBC, Channel Four, ITV, National Geographic Channel and PBS in the USA. Their work has been screened internationally in over forty countries. Owned and run by Solon Papadopoulos and Roy Boulter; each partner brings a wealth of experience from highly successful individual writing and documentary careers.
