Creative England has partnered with nationally recognised organisations - Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester; Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, Live Theatre, Newcastle and the Writers' Centre Norwich - who share deep regional roots and a longstanding commitment to new writing.
18 nominated writers from the English regions will be provided with the tools to develop their talent and experience from other fields - theatre, novels and television - towards writing for film. Each partner will in turn host an intensive weekend residential in their region, bringing together the cohort of writers five times over the eight-month programme.
Each writer benefits from professional development and paid commissions of a short film script and feature treatment. At the end of the eight-month programme three of the short film scripts written during the programme will be professionally produced by Creative England and other projects being fed into Creative England's wider offer as well as the film industry at large.
Creative England's intent with this partnership is to uncover and support the screenwriting talent of the future - and to help broaden the talents' creative and working opportunities in their regions. The programme will be led and delivered by Creative England's Talent Centres and Programme Producer Anna Seifert Speck, highly experienced in film development.
